Ten ways to save money and the environment
- Turning your thermostat down by just 1°C could reduce your heating bills nearly 10 percent! With a timer you can set your hot water to come on only when you need it, not constantly.
- Ensure your thermostat is set at 60°C/140°F.
- Make sure windows are draught proofed and that curtains are closed on cold nights.
- Turn off lights in unused rooms. If you are concerned about security use a timer socket.
- Appliances such as televisions use a great deal of energy even when on standby! Swich them off at the plug socket when not in use.
- Fill your washing machine and dishwasher, one full load uses less energy that several smaller ones.
- Fill your kettle with only as much water as needed.
- Fix any dripping taps, particularly hot water ones.
- Save up to £65 by replacing your light bulbs with the new enrgy efficient varieties.
- Wear warmer clothes in the winter months and turn the heating down to save £££.
